Molécule-R Packagings

  • Molécule-R Packagings
  • Chez Valois has just produced the new brand identity for the Gourmet company Molécule-R Flavors. The studio created two rechargeable kits; "Cuisine R-evolution" and "Cocktail R-evolution" each including food additives, kitchen utensils and a dvd of recipes, permitting to realize various molecular dishes and cocktails. With its didactic approach, Molécule-R Flavors, demystifies the molecular cuisine and makes it accessible to a wider public.

Chez Valois created the logotype, visual identity, structural and visual design of the packagings, the interface of the DVD, participated in the creation of the recipes and did the food styling and photoshoot. The photographs of the packs just received two Canadian Lux Photo awards.

Help Save Paper (Wall Calendar)

  • Help Save Paper (Wall Calendar)
  • Brief
Each year, paper merchant, Antalis invites an agency to design a calendar to promote their product range. The calendars produced usually feature intricate illustrations, print effects and with each month printed on a different paper.

We were commissioned to curate and design the Antalis calendar for 2010. Instead of designing a calendar, we initiated a movement. A movement to help save paper.

    Solution
Thanks to digital proliferation, paper’s numerous variants and breeds are dying out, leaving only the dull A4 copier paper, most commonly found in offices.

In such dire straits, we’ve called on twelve individuals from all artistic disciplines to create an object using only paper - to create things of beauty, things of usefulness or anything else they can imagine, as long as it elevates the status of paper – from a surface for printing, to a versatile medium of brilliant creativity.

The 12 objects were featured on the Antalis 2010 calendar, to serve as inspiration to and a reminder of the infinite possibilities that paper presents.

apomechanes

    nonlinear computational design strategies
  • This book presents the projects designed and fabricated during the apomechanes computational design studio in 2009 & 2010, supported by theoretical articles and professional projects by Karl Chu, Carla Leitao, Kokkugia and Ahylo, exploring computational design and its fields of materialization.

Apomechanes is an international intensive studio held each summer in Athens, Greece. The studio is devoted to furthering techniques and concepts of algorithmic processes as means for design and fabrication.

Algorithmic design introduces processes that allow the genetic growth of complex structures and forms, with the use of simple syntactic rules. Apomechanes is an attempt to set up a unique agenda on computational design methodologies and underline the morphogenetic qualitative characteristics of the algorithmic logic. Non-linear, self-organized and emergent behaviours are intravenous injected into the core of the architectural design process, and the focus is on the inherent potential of computation to generate space.

“... Architecture is the site for staging the dialectics between Logos and Mythos, of logic and meaning that governs the constitutive processes involved in any act of world making. It is within this larger context that the significance of the generative objects done by the apomechanes studio can be appropriated: a constructive endeavor directed towards the construction of possible objects of architecture ... they attempt to find the locus of convergence between the architecture of computation and the computation of architecture...” Karl Chu, September 2010
